Edexcel BTEC Extended Diploma in Strategic Management & Leadership - Level 7

This postgraduate professional qualification comes from Edexcel BTEC, the UK's largest examining body. It combines education in all the basic modern management techniques with a comprehensive development programme of the personal skills required by today's managers, for example, decision making, team building, etc. Assessment is by a mixture of assignments and examinations.

This Level 7 qualification (see the UK Qualification & Curriculum Authority’s National Database of Accredited Qualifications) recognizes highly developed and complex levels of knowledge which enable the development of in-depth and original responses to complicated and unpredictable problems and situations. Learning at this level involves the demonstration of high level specialist professional knowledge and is appropriate for senior professionals and managers. Level 7 qualifications are at a level equivalent to Masters Degrees, Postgraduate Certificates and Postgraduate-Diplomas.

Hence this qualification is recognized as a pre-requisite/entry qualification for many UK University MBA Programmes. In addition, the Edexcel BTEC Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership is a valuable qualification in its own right as it prepares graduates from any discipline for a career in Management, or an executive or management role in any industry sector. Alternatively, a student can progress on to an MBA or specialist MA Programme in any management discipline, or pursue a professional qualification in Accountancy, Marketing, and Human Resource Management etc.

A significant benefit of achieving this qualification is that successful students will be automatically entitled to become members of the UK’s foremost bodies for Professional Managers, the Chartered Management Institute, and will be eligible to use the designation of ACMI or MCMI after their name (depending on the level of previous work experience). This demonstrates your competence as a trained manager, and only 20% of UK managers are qualified in this way.

  • Possession of a degree from a recognised Institution of Higher Learning
  • Possession of a level 6 qualification from another internationally recognized awarding body in a management related programme/course.

Programme Structure (Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership)

The Edexcel Level 7 BTEC Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership is a self-contained course and it is a stepping stone to undertaking an MBA programme in highly recognized and prestigious institutions. 

It is a full-time and is completed over a time span of fifteen months. It has nine units of which three (3) are mandatory and there is a choice of selection for six (6) specialist units. All units must be passed to gain this qualification.

All the units are delivered with a mixture of the following:

  • Group work,
  • Debates and self study.

Assessments of the units are conducted with a combination of different methods including:

The selection of the specialist units have been carefully chosen with a deliberate and concise focus on management strategy. This is to enable students to have an insight into how core organisational systems contribute to managerial effectiveness to enable the realization of strategic objectives.

Moderation

In order to make the assessment as fair as possible, a system of moderation has been put in place. LSME undertakes stringent assessment activities and internal moderation, whilst the EDEXCEL undertakes an external moderation exercise periodically. The final results are then presented to the LSME Academic Board for formal approval.

Programme Structure

The Edexcel Level 7 BTEC Extended Diploma in Strategic Management and Leadership comprises 120 credits.

To achieve the whole qualification, a learner must successfully complete 3 core/mandatory units (25 credits) and approved specialist units totalling 95 credits.

Edexcel Level 5 BTEC Diploma in Management and Leadership


BTEC Professional Qualifications in Management and Leadership provide specialist work-related programmes of study that cover the key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required in the management sector. The qualifications also offer specialist emphasis through the choice of specialist units. This qualification offers an engaging programme for higher education and adult learners who are clear about the area of management they wish to enter or progress within. The qualification also provides a suitable qualification for those wishing to change career or move into employment in management following a career break. Access to suitable management work situations is fundamental to successful completion of this qualification, either through permanent full- or part-time employment or through a collaborative work placement.

This internationally recognised qualification is ideal for candidates who want to pursue a career in management and administration. The programme will help the candidate to develop their managerial and leadership skills necessary to become a successful and proficient manager. Course Aims and Objectives

The course aims to develop candidates’ problem solving and decision making skills. Students will focus on the application of management principles, techniques and skills. Managerial concepts and principles are evaluated and students will learn how to apply these concepts and principles to a variety of workplace environments.

Entry Requirements

Candidates are required to possess “A” levels or equivalent with appropriate work experience or a BTEC Level 3 qualification or equivalent. Candidates must have adequate proof of proficiency in English language. Having experience in basic research methods will be an added advantage.

Progression Route

The qualification contains a balance of practical skill development and knowledge requirements. The units are designed to meet the skill needs of the sector and the specialist units allow coverage of the full range of employment. The knowledge requirements for the units provide the underpinning knowledge for the National Occupational Standards for Management and Leadership, and therefore provide progression opportunities to NVQs in Management, and also to the Edexcel level 7 BTEC Advanced Professional Award Certificate and Diploma in Management Studies.

Edexcel BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Business (QCF)


LSME is proud to inform all prospective students of the EDEXCEL BTEC Level 5 HND in Business (Specialisation Pathways in Management; Human Resource Management; and Marketing).This programme is designed to provide for the needs of a wide range of individuals who wish to gain academic knowledge and insight of how business works and to evaluate the application of business principles.

The programme develops students’ abilities and personal skills in business and gives them a clear route to employment and degree courses.

The Edexcel BTEC HND Year 2 (Level 5) in Business is a qualification with a minimum of 240 credits of which 125 are mandatory core. It provides greater breadth and specialisation than the Edexcel BTEC HND Year 1. The Edexcel BTEC HND year 2 in Business (Management; Human Resource Management and Marketing) provides opportunities for learners to apply their knowledge and practical skills in the workplace. The qualification prepares learners for employment in the business sector and will be suitable for learners who have already decided that they wish to enter this area of work.

Progression Route

Learners studying the Edexcel BTEC HND Year 1 will be able to progress onto the HND Year 2, which allows more specialisation; this then allows progression to degrees in business subjects.

Learners studying the Edexcel BTEC HND Year 2 will be able to progress to a degree in business or one of its specialist areas. Progression from this qualification may well be into or within employment in the business sector where learners may work towards membership of a professional body.

Assessment

The course is assessed by end of term assignments. Each unit is internally assessed and graded by qualified Tutors / Assessors and Internal Verifiers. The final assessment is done by an Edexcel External Examiner. Grades awarded are Pass, Merit and Distinction.

Entry Requirements

  • A GCE “A” Level profile which demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or an adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at level A-C.
  • Other related Level 3 qualification or minimum Senior Secondary School Certificate.
  • An equivalent foreign qualification.
  • Candidates must have adequate proof of proficiency in English language
